Outdoor Armored Fiber Optic Cable

Outdoor Armored Fiber Optic Cable is a cost-effective and robust solution for access and distribution networks where the cable may be exposed to physical damage. The fibers are placed in a gel-filled loose tube and protected with corrugated steel tape armor and a UV-resistant PE sheath. Suitable for low fiber counts (typically up to 24FO) and available in Central Loose Tube (CLT) armored structures.

Features & Benefits

  • Compact structure
  • Waterproof design
  • Loose tube, gel-filled tube
  • UV-resistant PE outer sheath
  • Metallic armor protected, enhanced rodent resistance
  • High crush and impact resistance
  • Moisture barrier via water-blocking components

FAQ

What is an outdoor armored fiber optic cable used for?

It is used in OSP environments where mechanical protection against crush/impact and rodent risk is required.

Is this cable suitable for direct burial?

Yes, armored construction can be used for direct burial where heavy-duty protection is needed. Confirm site conditions during RFQ.

What is the difference between PE and LSZH sheath?

PE is optimized for outdoor UV and mechanical durability. LSZH is chosen when smoke/halogen requirements are needed (typically indoor or regulated environments).

What provides rodent resistance?

Corrugated steel tape armor plus strength members (and correct installation) improves rodent and crush resistance.

Can I request higher tensile strength?

Yes. Increased tensile strength options (e.g., aramid yarn or glass yarn) can be specified in the RFQ.
